Gincana Petrobras de Surfe

A fun and original event! That's how we can describe the Gincana Petrobras de Esportes (Petrobras) games, which took place in Pernambuco on March 3 - 4, 2007, with Brazilian legends from three sport disciplines sponsored by the company - Surfing, Kart Racing, and Handball. To add to the excitement, the games also included an open entry 5k race with the participation of more than 1,000 athletes. In all, 4 competitions were staged over the weekend, and established the games as a major success.

There were 3 teams made up of 1 surfer, 1 kart racing pilot, and 5 runners. The surfing competition was held at Baía de Maracaípe, the kart racing competition was held at the kart race tracks in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, and the street race was held on a course along Recife's waterfront boulevard. The closing event took place on the sands of Praia de Boa Viagem Beach, where teams competed for Gol de Ouro (the Golden Goal) - an exciting series of 42 shot attempts were defended by Maik, the Brazilian National Handball team's goalkeeper!

The Blue Team made up of Luciano Burti and Picuruta Salazar won the champion's cup. The Green Team made up of Tarso Marques e Rico de Souza came in second, followed by the Yellow Team with Enrique Bernoldi and Carlos Bahia in third.

SporTV cable channel produced a TV special on the event, aired in their "Zona de Impacto" and "Tá na Área" shows.

Besides the television coverage, the event was broadcast by Recife's three hippest radio stations - Transamérica, CBN, and Clube FM.
