X-Games

The X Games is an annual event with a focus on extreme action sports (skate, bike, and inline) held for the first time in the United States more than ten years ago, with X Games-related qualifying competitions staged around the world. The event, the first-ever Latin American X Games Qualifier, was held in Rio de Janeiro at the Aterro do Flamengo on March, 2002, and gathered the leading action sports athletes in each category vying for a qualifying place in the world's premier action sports annual competition, the X Games in the United States.

With the overall success of the first edition, Brazil could no longer be left out of the loop and, in May 2004, another Latin American X Games competition was held on Leme Beach.

The event was shown live on Rede Globo television network's "Esporte Espetacular" show, with excellent ratings, and was also televised to over 40 countries on ESPN.
